Your site's system administrators can provide you with the site certificate for Eduroam.
If this is in .DER format then convert it to .PEM format with the command
$ openssl x509 -inform DER -in example.der -outform PEM -out example.pem
Eduroam requires version 0.6.5 or later of Network Manager. Stock installations of Fedora 8 and Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) are suitable.
Approach an Eduroam access point.
Left-click your mouse on the Network Manager applet. The applet is usually found on the right-hand side of the ribbon panel at the top of the screen.

Network Manager then lists wireless networks which are advertising their presence. "eduroam" may not be on this list, as an access point may be present but not advertising.

Selecting Connect to Other Wireless Network brings up a menu to complete.

Complete the form as shown above.
Replace fred.bloggs@example.edu.au with your identifer. This will usually be either your userid and your institution's domain name in the format userid@domain (eg: fab@example.edu.au) or your e-mail address (eg: fred.bloggs@example.edu.au).
Replace example.pem with the site certificate file you saved previously.
When the form is completed click the Connect button. The applet will then show the link being established.
